Many people think that the whole of the internet can be accessed on their normal browsers such as Chrome, IE or Firefox. This is not the case. These mainstream browsers only give you access to 4% of the actual internet. There is a further 96% of hidden content in a place what we know as the “Dark Web” or “Deep Net”.

The Deep Web and anonymous browsing through TOR has actually been around for some time. But it has recently come to the attention of the mainstream due to the demise of hidden marketplace Silk Road and shows such as House of Cards.

It’s called the “Deep Web” because that’s exactly what it is. It contains all of the websites and data that you can’t access through a regular browser or search engine hidden deep within the internet. Dark web sites include everything from boring statistics to drug dealing to human body parts for sale.

To access the dark web, you need to use a special anonymous browser, the most common one is TOR (The Onion Router). Using TOR will enable you to access sites with a .onion domain, which is what dark net sites use instead of other extensions such as .com or .org.

After the NSA spying scandal, concerns have been increasingly growing over internet privacy. This has led people to flock to TOR for its ability to let users browse the web in true anonymity.

Can I Get Into Trouble For Using TOR

Well, using TOR to hide your identity and browse the web is completely legal. But, if you are using TOR for illegal activity such as drugs, weapons or illegal porn then of course this could get you into trouble. There has been a string of arrests related to people’s dark web activities, so it is essential that if you are using it for illegal activities you are extremely careful.

So you want to purchase something from a dark web marketplace, but don’t know where to start. Of course you can’t just use your credit card or Paypal account, mosy purchases are made using the anonymous cryptocurrency Bitcoin.

Bitcoin is a virtual currency that is encrypted and allows people to make transactions anonymously. The currency has mainly been used for questionable transactions to hide a person’s identity, particularly on dark web markets.

But don’t be fooled, you have to be smart when using Bitcoin. Yes it can be anonymous, buy you can also easily lead a trail back to yourself.
